Adjusting 5th Wheel Trailer Height To New Taller Truck

Question:

switching a 16K Husky 5th wheel hitch from 2015 2500 HD to a 2021 25000 HA, bed depth is the same, however new truck sits 2inch higher. Steep driveway, should I use the slider hitch to compensate for the increased truck height while backing down steep drive? Thank You

Expert Reply:

A slider hitch would actually sit higher due to the slide rails so that would only further raise the connection point in your truck. You would need to either lower your pin box (if possible) to make sure you have 6" of bed clearance and/or need to flip the leaf springs on your RV over the axels with the Dexter Trailer Springs Over-Under Conversion Kit Item # K71-384-00 for 2-3/8" diameter axles or the Dexter Trailer Springs Over-Under Conversion Kit Item # K71-385-00 for 3" diameter axels.
