Parts Needed To Add 7-way Connector To 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 Towing Small Travel Trailer
Question:
My truck has an existing 4-way connector. We are considering getting a smaller travel trailer, so I will need to convert to a 7-way connector. What would be the easiest way to do this? Thanks for your help.

Since your 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 does not have the factory 7-way connector, but has a 4-way connector you can easily add a 7-way connector using the # ETBC7.
This will plug in to your existing 4-way connector and just require a few more connections. You will ground the white wire to the frame of the truck, run the blue wire to where you are planning on adding a trailer brake controller (If the trailer has trailer brakes, if it does not I would run the wire under the dash so it is there should you ever need it), and run the black wire to the positive terminal of the battery with the included 40 amp circuit breaker.
If your trailer hitch receiver does not have a built in mount for a 7-way connector you will also need a no drill mounting bracket # 18140.
If your small travel trailer has trailer brakes, you will also need a trailer brake controller. I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195 due to it being a very reliable controller, and having great features like an easy to read LCD screen and built in diagnostics that are easy to read and understand. This controller is proportional meaning it uses a built in inertia sensor to detect the intensity you applied the brakes in your truck, and matches that intensity to the trailer brakes.
I included videos of the products mentioned for you to take a look at.
