Video Transcript for Review of Peterson Trailer Lights - Reverse Tail Light - PE44AR

Ellen: Hey everyone. I'm Ellen here etrailer.com and we're going to be looking at the great white led backup light. So this is going to be for your trailer to illuminate the area behind you while you're backing up so you can see what's going on and not run into anything. The nice thing about this is that it's going to be a really big bright light that uses LEDs. So there's virtually no maintenance required with this, like there would be with an incandescent bulb where you've got to change out those bulbs every so often. This should last you for a really long time without really having to replace it unless that housing gets cracked.

The housing is made out of a durable plastic or a polycarbonate, I should say, and that's going to be the same for the lens and the housing and then there's going to be this foam grommet going behind it to give it a little bit of squish and help protect it from vibrations and things like that. The wires coming out of it, there's no real slot for those to sit in. But there's enough give that they should sit pretty flat there. You might have to find kind of a sweet spot for those wires to go so that they can fold down. There's a little brace on one side and then this plastic piece going around. So might've to kind of finagle with it to get that in place.

There's no hardware that comes with this, which is kind of one downside. You will have to pick your own hardware. But it does kind of depend on where you're going to be mounting this and what material you're going into to determine what's going to be the right hardware for you. So let's take a little closer look at it. This is going to be a clear lens over white LEDs.

So it gives us that nice bright white light. I'm going to adjust the brightness a little bit on my camera so that we can see it a little bit better. Here we go and to hook this up, we just have two connections to make. It's going to be to power and ground. So red wire is to power.

White is to ground. The red wire has a bullet stud, so something like that.So you can use that with an appropriate connection or you can always cut that off and just use a regular butt connector depending on your lighting setup. But once we have those two connected, our light power's on and you can see a really nice bright light and if I pull this away from my table that's about at arms length and that's definitely still bright enough so I can see what's going on behind me. It's casting a light over onto the far wall of my little studio here, which is about 16 feet away. Definitely illuminates in the darkness. So it gives you a lot of light from this one disc. Turn the lights back on. Disconnect our wires. Let's talk about size. So it's seven inches in diameter and then about an inch and a half in thickness or depth, however you want to think about it. We'll have a total of 20 diodes, 20 diodes. The operating range for this as far as power is between nine to 32 volts. So it does work with 12 volt DC systems. Its circuit board is potted. So that's going to give it some protection against vibration. You can kind of see that here. It looks like an epoxy material. So that's going to seal all that circuitry in there and give it some vibration protection whenever you're out on the road. Things are always kind of moving and vibrating. So we want to make sure that those circuits are protected from that and that they last a long time. This also helps to keep it weatherproof as well. So we shouldn't have any issues with water getting in and getting an ingress. Same thing around the housing. It's going to be sealed. So it should last a long time for you. The four holes that we have for mounting, the distance between them, center to center roughly is six inches or six and a quarter inch and then if we go around side to side, center to center there, it's about four and three eighths. But that's pretty much going to do it for our look at the great white LED trailer backup light. This does have a limited lifetime warranty and we do also have two other versions of this same light, one in amber and one in red.So if you need those other two colors for your application, check them out here etrailer.com. But that's going to do it for me. I hope this video has been helpful. Thanks for watching.

Ordered these to add as lights inside my Decked truck bed cargo system. Work great. Note: To wire this up for a Decked cargo box inside light, you can either do a waterproof toggle switch, or go with a magnetic switch like you would use for an alarm system. I did the latter. You can tap into your bed lighting or to a constant 12vdc at the trailer harness. The magnet switches are set so that the lights turn on when I pull a drawer open, and off when I shut it. Attached some photos to show what they look like

The light itself is great! It would work better if there was a deeper recess on the bottom where it mounts to the trailer. This would help conceal the wiring and extend the light toward the rear of the trailer to better illuminate the license plate.

Very Nice Item

Well built, easy installation. Great people to do biz with

by:

Have actually used used these in different setups. 2 enclosed trailers, a 10' long and 22 ' long. Also used 2 for pickup truck bed lighting mounted under the rails of a tonneau cover.
they have worked very well

by:

This was a great replacement for the original lic plate light. I did have to drill one new hole because the new light base was a tad wider than the original base. The wiring was very simple: hot and ground and it worked like a champ.

by:

Reordered after breaking on install. It wasn’t the products fault. Someone shut the trailer door on it just prior to final install and broke the lens. Light still works! Quality product!

  • Recommended Reverse Light for Limited Space at Back of Trailer
It sounds like you're needing a light like the Great White LED Trailer Back Up Light # PE44AR. This has a 7" diameter and a simple 2-wire connection. Since it's a surface mount light you only need to make a small hole for the wiring instead of a whole cutout for the entire light. If you're looking for more of a flood light so you can see easier behind your trailer I recommend checking out the Low Profile LED Flood Light # OPT64FR which is also a surface mount light (so only a small hole...
