Picking Out Ball Mount for Truck Hauling Rental Trailer
Question:
Hi friends- This is my first pickup truck and first trailer hitch install-Ill mainly be renting a Tractor Supply trailer to occasionally haul hay-Im confused about the options for the ball mount/shank thing-Id like to keep this as inexpensive as possible-can I suffice w/ the $50 option, or do I need to get the $108 kit to cover all the bases?

If you want to make this as inexpensive as possible I would recommend calling the trailer rental place and first seeing if they have a ball mount they could just let you borrow when you rent the trailer as that is pretty common. Next option would be then to ask them what the distance is from the bottom of the coupler lip on their rental trailer down to the ground and compare that to the distance from the top of the hitch opening down to the ground. That difference would be the amount of rise/drop you'd need and would allow you to pick just a single ball mount like the # 989891 which comes with a 2 inch drop or 3/4 inch rise.
I also attached a help article on picking out ball mounts as well.
