Converting 4-Way Flat on a 2005 Honda Pilot to a 5-Way or 6-Way Round Trailer Connector

Question:

Ive already got a wiring harness 4 pin flat for my 2005 Honda Pilot I purchased from etrailler. I was thinking of borrowing a friends pop-up camping trailer. He says it has a 5 or 6 pin round connector, and believe the connector provides braking control on the trailer. What is the best way to provide the round connector for my 2005 Honda Pilot?

If the trailer does have a 6-Way round then you can use adapter # A10-6034VP. This will give you the basic light functions but unless you connector the other wires on the adapter and use a brake controller you will not be able to use the trailer brakes, if equipped, or provide 12 volt power to the trailer. The white wire on the adapter must be connected to the vehicle frame.

The black wire on the adapter connects to the positive terminal of the vehicle battery via a 40 amp circuit breaker # PK54540. The blue wire will go to the blue wire on a brake controller which would then have to be hardwired into the vehicle. However, you would be better off converting to a 7-Way using # ETBC7, a brake controller, and an adapter like # HM47570 which can easily be configured to match one of the 2 possible ways a 6-Way could be wired.

The ETBC7 kits comes with all the wiring and circuit breakers you will need to wire in the 7-Way and brake controller. Then you would need the brake controller itself. I recommend the P2, # 90885, because it is reliable, easy to use, and easy to set up. I have included some links that will help explain the installation.

If the trailer has a 5-Way round then you will need to manufacturer and adapter starting with a 5-Way vehicle end, # PK11502 and a 4-Way trailer end # HM48110. You will attach the wires on the 4-Way to the 5-Way as follows:

White - Ground Return
Green - Right Turn and Brake Lights
Yellow - Left Turn and Brake Lights
Red - Auxiliary Circuit
Brown - Tail Lights

If you just want lights and not brakes or whatever the aux circuit is for then you will not connect anything to it.
