Does the Battery Wire of the Tow Ready Harness for 2012 Toyota RAV4 Have to be Run to the Battery

Can I hook up the trailer wiring harness to a 2012 Toyota RAV4 without connecting it to the cars battery? What are the pros and cons of hooking the harness to the cars battery or not? Thank you!

You will have to run the battery wire of the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118412 to install it on your 2012 Toyota RAV4. This is a powered unit that draws all its power from the vehicle battery to power the taillights of your trailer. This protects the delicate tail light circuitry of your vehicle from being overdrawn. Basically, it just uses your taillight circuits as signal wires and draws the power from the battery.
The unit would not function without being run to your vehicle battery.
