Base plates are sold separately from the other components you will need to flat tow your 2009 Ford Escape. The first thing you will want to do is consult the vehicle owners manual to determine if the vehicle can be flat towed and if there are any special requirements or procedures to follow if it can be flat towed.

The base plate kit # DM9518219 includes everything needed to install the base plates to the vehicle. The safety cables are not included, however they are included with the compatible tow bar, the Demco Commander # DM9511012.

If you just need safety cables then you can use part # RM-643.

Next you will need a lighting solution. For an easy to install and use system I recommend the Hopkins kit # HM56000. It looks like you will also need to pull some fuses on the vehicle in order to flat tow it (consult the owners manual to confirm) so a fuse bypass, # RM76511, makes that process much easier.

And finally most states require a supplemental braking system on the vehicle being flat towed. The easiest systems to set up and use are portable systems like the Blue Ox Patriot # BLU37TR. It applies the vehicle brakes in proportion to how much the tow vehicle is braking. This is the safest way to stop and it reduces wear and tear on both vehicles.

I have also included some helpful links to our articles on flat towing for you to view.
