Brackets for Installing 7-way Trailer Connector on 2004 Chevy Silverado
Question:
Where does the plug receptacle mount on the Curt Class V receivers?
asked by: Buck
Expert Reply:
To install a 7-way like part # PK11893 on that generation GM truck, we typically use a mounting bracket, part # C57202 that mounts to the crossbar of the hitch using a band clamp. Part # 18138 is used to connect the 7-way to the bracket.
Many times folks are tempted just to screw the bracket directly into the crossbar of the hitch. Adding holes to or modifying the hitch in any way can weaken it structurally and will void its warranty.
If there is a suitable mounting point under the bumper, the # C57202 can be eliminated and the self-tapping screws from the included hardware can be used to attach the bracket to the mounting point.
