Replacing a Damaged Trailer Axle

Question:

Hi, just had bearings go bad on my boat trailer and in the process badly damage the left side spindle and hub. If I got the spring seat dimensions and bearing numbers can I get a recommendation for a new axle? Fairly new to this so I dont even know where to start

Having the bearing numbers and spring seat measurements, you will definitely get most of the way to finding new parts, but you will need a couple more things to confirm the replacements will be correct.

The spring seats are only half of the measurements needed to find the correct axle. You will need to measure from hub face to hub face to make sure the total length of the axle is correct as well. Granted with your hub and spindle being damaged, you will just need to get it as close as you can. If you look at the CE Smith # CE33201GA-HUB, which would replace the axle and hubs, you can see the measurements needed.

You will also need to determine your bolt pattern. If you have a 4 bolt, then you can skip this part as the 4 on 4 is an industry standard and will not need to be measured.

However, if you have a 5 lug, you will need to measure the distance from bolt center to adjacent bolt center. The following measurements will determine which you have.

2-5/8" - the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2
2-3/4" - the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4
3" - the bolt pattern is 5 on 5
3-1/4" - the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2
