Trailer Hitch Receiver Locks for Preventing Theft by Breaking The Lock.

Question:

The Etrailer e98882 hitch lock has inside threads that hold the lock together. Is this arrangement any more or less resistant to physical attack e.g. someone with a 3 foot pipe to fit over the lock and attempt to break the lock by bending the pin? Many hitch pin locks can be broken in seconds using this method. I would consider buying a Bolt hitch pin lock, but my car isnt supported by Bolt, so Im looking of a good alternate choice. Ive also looked at the Lets Go Aero lock which has the advantage of needing a wrench to get the pin out which would also slow down a thief. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks,

The etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock # e98882 is a good lock that I feel would require more effort than most to break. If there is one thing to remember it is that given the opportunity and time a thief will get what he set out to get. The best we can do is add deterrents to increase the time required and hopefully deter them from attempting to take what you have.

The Lets Go Aero Lock # 63232 is only designed to be used with hollow shank bike racks and cargo carriers. There for it will not work for towing or using sold shank accessories.

Adding a device like the Roadmaster Quiet Hitch # RM-061 may also help to deter the thief as it will increase the time needed to remove the hitch. This will work on solid shank accessories and ball mounts as well.
