Troubleshooting Hopkins Custom Tail Light Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles

Question:

Hello. I purchased this kit along with a face plate for my 2013 Chev Equinox a year or so ago. I am having an issue with one brake light not working and am wondering if you might suspect the Hopkins Simple Plug Flat Tow Kit 56108 has failed. Here is a list of everything I checked so far. Any insight or info would be greatly appreciated. Trying to figure out if I need to rip it all out and install new kit, if this is the issue. Thank You Issue: Left brake light does not work on towed vehicle Equinox when connected to my motorhome. 1. When connected to Motorhome, both taillights, turn signals , flashers work on Equinox however, only right side brake light works. 2. When not connected to Motorhome, everything works properly on Towed Vehicle Equinox. 3. All connections from MotorHome to Towed Equinox via cable from socket of MotorHome and Socket on from of car have been tested for power all is good. This really has me stumped. Since I have all taillights, turn signals, flashers working when connected to my Motorhome, why would only the right side brake light work. I assume there is nothing wrong with connections to the socket, as both brake lights work when not connected to the motorhome. Your thoughts, Thank you in advance for any help. So I can determine if I need to get a New Hopkins Kit, if that is the issue.

In order to test a Hopkins Custom Tail Light Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles like part # HM56108 all you'd need is a test light. Simply test the stop/turn/running light signal that plugs into the factory pigtail and then see if the signal is carried out on the wire(s) that run to the converter box. If just one signal becomes inoperable then chances are the converter box is bad and the unit will need to be replaced.
