Replacement Winch for Dutton Lainson DL2500A
Question:
looking to replace a DL winch on my boat trailer. It says DL2500A. Not sure if this is a brake winch or not? What is recommended for a boat which is 4,000 lbs on a dual axle trailer. brake winch safer/better?

The Dutton Lainson winch part # DL15721 is the same as the DL2500A that you have now and has an automatic brake. This would work well for you as a replacement. Typically when picking out a winch for a boat trailer the ratio of boat trailer weight to winch capacity needed is 2 to 1 meaning that for a 4,000 lb boat like you have the minimum capacity needed would be 2,000 lbs. Since this has 2,500 lbs of capacity it would be a little more than needed which means it would be easier to crank without being overkill.
