Weight Distribution With Sway Control For a 2,000 Pound Trailer

Question:

I have a 21foot camp trailer, weight about 7000 loaded estimate. I tow it with a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. I currently use a Recurve R3 weight distribution hitch but I dont have confidence in the sway control of the system. I think the weight distribution is fine but question the 2 point ball and socket sway control. The Truth Track weight distribution system seems more substantial. Your thoughts?

The Curt TruTrack # C17500 is a sturdy weight distribution hitch, but with a minimum tongue weight capacity of 800 pounds, it may be a little too heavy duty for your trailer. The tongue weight of a trailer is typically 10 to 15 % of the overall weight of the trailer. This would put you at, roughly, 700 to 1,050 pounds. If you are on the heavier side, it would definitely work.

If you are on the lighter side, I recommend going with the Reese Steadi-Flex # RP66560. This would be a similar design to the Curt # C17500, but would have a better weight capacity of 600 pounds to 1,200 pounds. Having automotive grade friction material for the sway control, similar to brake pads, this has exceptional sway control properties.

As we do not carry the Recurve R3 weight distribution hitches, I cannot advise on how well it functions.
