Choosing Between the Curt TruTrack 8K and 10 Systems for a 5K Trailer

Question:

Thanks for the quick reply. Is it possible then to purchase the lager Item # C17500 and get the smaller bars so I don't also have to buy a huge torque wrench for the ball I'd have to add? Also, could you be more specific about "wouldn't perform as well"?

The Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution System part # C17500 which is rated for up to 10,000 lbs gross trailer weight and 1,000 lbs tongue weight would work but it wouldn't perform as well as the Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution System part # C17499 which is rated for 8,000 lbs gross trailer weight and 800 lbs tongue weight on a 5,000 lbs trailer which will likely have an actual tongue weight once loaded anywhere from 500 lbs - 750 lbs.

That said, if you were to go with the lower rated system you could simply get new spring bars to upgrade capacity down the road, the Replacement Trunnion Spring Bar for Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution System part # C17536. Please note, you will need the 2-5/16" Hitch Ball part # 63840 as well for the smaller system.

Yes, you could order the Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution System part # C17500 and then the Replacement Trunnion Spring Bar for Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution System part # C17535 so you don't have to worry about torquing the hitch ball down. In regards to performance, there won't be a huge difference but the higher rated spring bars are going to create a stiffer ride when used on a smaller trailer.
