Is It Safe To Tow Trailer That Is Not Level?

Question:

Hi! my trailer nose is definitely angled downwards when connected to my pintle hitch. Is this safe? I believe I am well below the tow capacity of my car which tows 3500 lbs as it is a 1/4 ton trailer. I am going to be driving it across Canada and want to be sure it will be safe! P.S. also wondering how it will affect my fuel efficiency? 10? 20? 50 worse? Thank you so much!

If the nose of your trailer is nose down when hooked up to your vehicle it will cause additional tongue weight on the hitch which could in theory lower your fuel economy, but I do not have an exact figure. As long as the extra tongue weight on the hitch is not exceeding the capacities of your vehicle or hitch it is not unsafe, but is also not ideal.

I recommend using a different pintle hook mount like the Pintle Hook Mount, 12-1/2" Tall, 8K # 63058 which will allow you to tow your trailer level. If you do not have a plate style pintle hitch you will also need Curt Pintle Hook - Bolt On - 30,000 lbs # C48215.

I included a few videos for you to take a look at.
