Trailer Hitch Receiver Towing Capacity for 2020 CR-V

Question:

We have a Honda 2020 CR-V. The Honda owners manual says the vehicle will tow up to 1,500 lbs. with a tongue weight of 150 lbs, but it appears to me that you sell a hitch that will allow you to tow up to 3,500 lbs with a tongue weight up to 525 lbs. Can you help me understand why there is the difference between the two. Thanks

The weight rating of your owners manual is the one that you want to use. Honda is telling you what your powertrain and chassis is capable of hauling without damaging their components.

The hitch manufacturer gives the hitch a rating that it's product is capable of being subjected to. Basically they built the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e98848 to far exceed what your vehicle is capable of to ensure it lasts and will not be damaged.
