Towing a Travel Trailer with a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
Question:
I’m having trouble wrapping my head around the towing capacity of my truck. I have a 2015 Silverado 1500, 5.3L, short box, crew cab 4x4, with a 3.42 axle ratio. Based on my findings, my truck has a 7200lb GVWR, and a 9200lb GCWR, with a curb weight of roughly 5300lbs. I understand that adding roughly 190bs in payload people/fuel/cargo will add to the max GVW, but I am having difficulty understanding how much I can actually tow behind the truck. I am in the process of searching for a travel trailer to pull and I keep getting confused on how much trailer I can actually tow. Is the max I can tow 9200, or 9200 minus the GVW? Also, would adding Timbren help reduce sway once I actually figure out how much I can tow? Thanks.

I looked up the owners manual for your truck and your maximum trailer weight capacity is 9,200 lbs and your GCWR is 15,000 lbs.
Timbrens # TGMRCK15S are designed to help support the rear of the vehicle when towing a trailer. They essentially stop the vehicle from sagging too far in the rear. I recommend getting a weight distribution hitch that pairs well with the travel trailer that you decide on. We have many to choose from that will help with sagging and sway control.
I have provided a link for you to check out the weight distribution set ups we have when you get closer to deciding on a trailer.
