Thanks Kyle - that's super helpful. What else do I need to get to tow a trailer? I assume I will need a wiring harness, wire connector, ball mount, hitch ball, pin and clip. Anything else? Any recommendations?

I can help you out with hitch for your 2014 Acura MDX, the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C13146 is a great choice.

The Curt is going to offer your '14 MDX great bumper and ground clearance; when we test fit this hitch on a 2014 Acura MDX we found it was about 2-3/4 inches from the hitch pin hole to the edge of the bumper, and 14 inches from the top of the hitch to the ground. That will give you really nice clearances to keep your bikes away from the back of your Acura as well as help keep the rack from hitting the ground.

You are correct that you will need a wiring harness, ball mount, and pin and clip in order to tow a trailer with your Acura and Curt Hitch # C13146. Let's start with the wiring harness, and the best one for your Acura is the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118628. The reason the Tekonsha is the best is because they have proven to make the most reliable trailer wiring harnesses, and it has the highest amp rating which means it gives you the best prevention against potential shorts. Then for the ball mount I recommend the etrailer Ball Mount Kit for 2" Hitches # 989891. This kit comes with a ball mount that has a 3/4" rise or 2" drop, 1-7/8" and 2" hitch ball, pin and clip, and storage bag so it has everything you need in one package.
