Parts Needed To Convert Factory 4-Way Connector To 7-Way Connector On 1997 Ford F-150
Question:
I have a 1997 Ford F150 with the tow package. I need to convert the 4 pin receptacle to a 7 pin to haul a tandem wheel boat trailer. I believe I have the receptacle under the dash for connecting an electric brake controller. looking at one of your kits, I dont know where to connect the loose wires for the electric brake to the controller. Wires dont look long enough to route to the dash. please let me know everything I need to convert to a 7 pin setup to control the trailer. Instructions would also help. Thank you !

I would be happy to recommend everything you need to convert the factory 4-way connector on your 1997 Ford F-150 to a 7-way connector.
You will need the Ford Replacement OEM Tow Package Wiring Harness, 7-Way # 118242 which will plug into your factory wiring harness and give you the 7-way connector you need to tow your tandem axle boat trailer. When we installed this on a newer F-150 we used the No-Drill Mount for Electrical Mounting Bracket # 18140, and # PK12711U to mount the new 7-way connector to the vehicle.
You are correct that there is a port under the dash to connect a trailer brake controller to. If you haven't decided on a trailer brake controller I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195 as it is our most popular trailer brake controller due to it being extremely reliable, having an easy to read LCD screen, and built in diagnostics that are easy to read and easy to understand.
To install the # 90195 in your truck you will need the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter for Electric Brake Controllers - Ford, Lincoln, Mercury # 3035-P which will plug into the factory port under your dash, and will plug directly into the trailer brake controller.
I included installation videos and written instructions for each of the products mentioned for you to take a look at.
