Kuat Swing Away System # PVP20B With 1-1/4 Shank Accessories

Question:

Subject: Kuat Pivot Swing Away Hitch Extender In some of the videos, you identify that a bike rack with a 1.25 size and adaptor would not work in the swing away hitch extender. Why is that? Second question: You also make a difference between swing away hitch for RVs vs regular vehicle. Why is that? Thanks, your videos are really great.

The Kuat Pivot # PVP20B is only rated for 2 inch bike racks because it extends the hitch point back further than your hitch receiver. 2 inch shanks are stronger than 1-1/4 inch shanks. The shank of a 1-1/4" bike rack cannot handle the added strain it'll endure when put into the pivot. The Pivot is not rated for Class A RV or camper use. Something like a Promaster Van or a Ford Transit will be okay though. The reason why it's not rated for Large RV/Trailers is because it will experience a lot more rattling around compared to your vehicles hitch. When there is a couple in between the tow vehicle and the camper, there is a lot more movement. As the distance between the back axle and the rear bumper increases, the amount of movement increases.
