Hitching Up to Fifth Wheel Trailer With Elevation Change

Question:

We are looking at buying a fifth wheel trailer. I have a 2020 Ford F-250 Lariat with 20 in tires and the 7.3 and 6 1/2 foot bed so I know it will pull fine. The issue is the I want to store the unit in my barn which has a steep incline at the entry door. For my bumper pull I simply raise the Jack to the highest point and back under with the hitch. Will this work for the fifth wheel? Will I be able to get it off my truck and back on again? I cannot find out how high I have to lift the unit off of the fifth wheel. Thanks.

You'd probably need to do the same thing with the fifth wheel trailer. Have it jacked up as high as possible and then take the tailgate off of your truck so that it wouldn't interfere.

Landing gear jacks on fifth wheel trailers generally can go pretty high and since the attachment point will be closer to the front of the truck you should be at a more level point with the truck once closer to the trailer. I would recommend using a hitch with a more movement in the head of the hitch as well like the Curt A20 slider part # C16541.You'd need a slider hitch so that you have enough turning clearance.
