Anti-Rattle Device Recommendation for Towing and Bike Racks

Question:

I have a 2011 4Runner 2inch hitch and I am looking for an anti-rattle devices that will work to stop the shift in the receiver when towing a trailer and to stabilize a Thule Apex bike rack when on rough roads. Do you have suggestions for one or possibly two different anti-rattle devices?

I have two favorites when it comes to anti-rattle devices. The first is the Roadmaster Quiet Hitch for 2" Trailer Hitches part # RM-061 the other is the Curt Anti-Rattle Kit for 2" Trailer Hitches part # C22321. The Blue Ox Part # BX88312 is one that works good as well but the size limits it's ability to work in some situations.

Either the Curt or roadmaster will work really well for your ball mount and eliminate most all play you experience. I would go with the Roadmaster but it does require a little more to install because it has two nuts and two jam nuts. The Curt is just a single bolt. The Curt will only work with a hollow shank accessory though so keep that in mind.

For your bike rack the Thule Apex has the built in anti rattle which makes it tough because of the alignment pin arm that is on the shank. The Roadmaster would fit in between the arm but would have to be used pulling downward on the racks shank to ensure you were not fighting the already existing anti rattle.

As a side note the Apex is usually very solid and moves very little. Give yours a once over to ensure all of the bolts and snug and the movement isn't coming from the rack instead of the connection point.

I have linked videos that I did on each of these for you to check out and see how each works.
