Weight Distribution Recommendation for Trailer that Weighs 4,000 lbs

Question:

HI, I am setting my 2017 Ford Flex without the factory tow package to be able to pull a travel trailer..something like an Apex Nano..around 4000 lbs GVWR. Here is my shopping list, and I am looking for a recommendation on a weight distribution hitch with Sway Control. Can you look at my list and make sure I have the right stuff and a hitch suggestion? All of the components you mentioned will do a great job for a towing setup for your 2017 Ford Flex and they are all linked below for you to check out but to answer your main question about weight distribution the way to do it is to base off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup.

So since your trailer would be 4,000 lb you'd most likely have a tongue weight around 400 to 500 lbs so the system I would recommend is the Strait Line part # RP66082 which has a tongue weight range between 200-600 lbs and features a sway control that works to fight sway before it starts.
