Do Electric Trailer Brakes With Parking Brake for 6k Axle Work on 7k Axle

Question:

I want to setup a 7k axle with electric brakes and parking brake. This is for an axle swap on an M105. Parking brake is critical. I have already reviewed your response to the question Adding Brakes vs. Replacing Axle on M105 Trailerinch but it does not address the parking brake issue. From what I can find, the electric brake with parking brake for the 7k axle does not exist. Will the 6k electric brakes with parking brakes bolt on to the 7k axle? Would these be a better solution vs going with a 6k axle in terms of total strength, etc...? Assuming the above assembly is possible, is it less expensive to get the 7k axle beam and add the hubs and brakes, or is it less expensive to just buy a 7k complete axle assembly and swap in the 6k brake assemblies with parking brake Thanks!

So long as you have a standard 5-bolt mounting flange on the axle such as the Brake Mounting Flange for 3" Round Axle # 4-44-1 you can use the 6,000 lb Dexter Electric Trailer Brake Kit with Parking Brakes # 23-112-113.

You will also need to have a 12" diameter x 2" wide drum for the brakes to fit in, and if you have those things, you can use these 6k brakes. You will also need the Mounting Bolts and Hardware for 12" Brake Assemblies # BRKH12.

As for the price, that really depends on the exact set up you get, but is likely less expensive to go with the parts separately, like the brakes with an axle such as # 8327864 and hub # 42866UC3-EZ.
