Can 12 Inch Tire and Wheel be Put on Trailer With 206/65-10 Inch Wheels

Question:

I am looking to upgrade my 1997 Jayco 1207 rim and tire combo. Currently have 205/65x10 95M tires with a 2400lb torflex axel and looking to upgrade to a 12 or 13 inch rims. Can I do this without doing an over/under conversion?”

It is possible you can upgrade your 10 inch wheel with a 206/65-10 tire to a 12 or 13 inch wheel, it just depends on the clearance you have. With trailer tires, the general rule of thumb is you want at least 3" of clearance from the top of the tire to your fender and at least 1" of clearance between the inside of the tire and your trailer's frame rail.

A 205/65-10 tire and wheel combo is 20.5" in diameter and 8.1" wide, so you can use that to determine if a larger wheel and tire will fit.

I recommend going with a ST145/R12 tire and wheel combo, which measures 21.3" in diameter and just 5.7" wide, so as long as you can add less than an inch in overall diameter these are the perfect option. The correct one will just depend on your bolt pattern, either 4 on 4" or 5 on 4-1/2". If you aren't sure you can use the guide I linked below which tells you how to determine this.

- 4 on 4" Bolt Pattern: Kenda Karrier S-Trail ST145/R12 Radial Tire with 12" White Spoke Wheel # AM35351DX

- 5 on 4-1/2" Bolt Pattern: Kenda Karrier S-Trail ST145/R12 Radial Tire with 12" White Spoke Wheel # AM31199DX
