How Much Taller is a ST145/R12 Radial Tire Than a 4.80 x 12 Tire?

Question:

Hello. My Utility trailer currently has 4.8 x 12 tires. Looking for an upgrade more for safety then anything. I was wondering can I replace the 4.8x12 tires with the Kendra Karrier ST145/R12 5 on 4 1/2 lug pattern ? If yes, how much taller are the Kendras ? I think I have enough room. Thanks

The Kenda Karrier S-Trail ST145/R12 Radial Tire w/ 12" White Spoke Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 - LR D item # AM31199DX would be a great replacement tire for your utility trailer. The 4.80 x 12 tires you already have give you an overall diameter of 20.7" and width of 4.9". The Kenda tires are 21.3" tall and 5.7" wide. So you are looking at just over a 1/2" taller at .6" and almost an 1" wider at .8". They recommend a minimum 3" of clearance between the fender and the top of your tire and 1" clearance from the side wall of your tire to your frame.

These tires are load rating D and have a maximum capacity of 1,220 lbs at 65 psi. This tire has a 1-year worry-free guarantee. If within the first 12 months the tire is damaged in any way, it will be replaced at no charge.
