Ball Mount Recommendation for 2 inch Hitch on 2007 Mazda CX-7
Question:
Hi, I have bought a trailer hitch from resse and it has a 2inch opening. I am a little confused on what trailer ball mount do I need and what size ball do i need. Are there common size balls etc. I will be towing a fishing boat .

Prior to purchasing a ball mount for your vehicle, check the coupler on your boat trailer. The ball size should be stamped into the metal somewhere on the coupler. You will also need a ball mount with the proper rise/drop. I have attached a link to our FAQ page on ball mounts, which will show you how to measure for the correct ball mount.
If your measurements prove it appropriate, a good option for your CX-7 with a 2 inch hitch receiver would be the Curt Trailer Hitch Starter Kit # C45534. It fits a 2 inch receiver and includes a ball mount with a 2 inch drop, a 2 inch ball and a 5/8 inch diameter hitch lock.
You might also be interested in the etrailer Ball Mount Kit # 989900. It also fits 2 inch hitches and comes with a ball mount with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and a ball mount with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop (both with a 6000 lb GTW and 600 lb tongue weight), a 1-7/8 inch hitch ball (2000 lb GTW), a 2 inch hitch ball (6000 lb GTW), and a pin and clip along with an etrailer.com ball mount bag. I have attached a video review of both kits.
