Manually Activating Break Away System to Keep Trailer From Getting Away While Moving By Hand
Question:
Im moving my trailer by hand, on a flat spot at the top of my steep driveway. Dont want it to get away from me! Couldnt I rig an electric button on a long jumper wire, so I could trigger the brakes manually if I needed to? Safer and easier than yanking on the cable?

Expert Reply:
Because trailer break away systems are desgined in a specific manner to provide maximum reliability and safety over the service life of the system, I'd be very reluctant in advising you to alter it in any way. Pulling the pin in the event of an emergency would be the safest and most advisable way to actuate the trailer brakes should the trailer get away from you while manually moving the trailer around.
