Break Away Kit with Charger Installation on a 25 ft 2003 Continental Cargo Trailer
Question:
I own a 2003 Continental Cargo Trailer, 25 feet long. The junction box with break away battery is under the front of trailer, so to access I have to use a 3 ton floor jack to get under. I would like to purchase a break away unit Tekonsha Breakaway Kit with Charger from e-trailer and be able to see condition of battery and charging mounted near trailer jack. How do I wire this into the junction box under trailer from the new loacation? The reason for wanting this is, the Local Police Departments now conduct road side DOT inspections of commercial trailers and they can check us every two weeks. I need to have the battery in top condition all the time. There are so many check points between Denver, CO and Castle Rock, CO it is rediculous, but if the break away does not work, the fine can put me out of business very quickly. I look forward to you reply on wiring or a wiring diagram so I can proceed with purchase. Thank you,

To install the Tekonsha Push to Test Breakaway Kit with Premium Integrated Charger you will first need to remove your old breakaway kit. You may be able to reuse some of the wiring of your old kit, but you may have to just start over with the wiring to install the # 50-85-313.
Next you will want to mount the # 50-85-313 in a place that is easily accessible for you.
The blue wire of the # 50-85-313 will attach to one end of the included breakaway switch (does not matter which side you use), the other end of the breakaway will get tapped into your brake output circuit on your trailer. The black wire will tap into the 12 volt power circuit and the white wire will tap into the ground circuit.
This unit should help you keep track of the condition of your breakaway battery so that if you were to get stopped by DOT you should be confident in its performance.
I attached an FAQ on breakaway systems for you to check out also.
