Changing From Hydraulic to Electric Trailer Brakes on Trailer With 2,000 lb Axle
Question:
I have a 1998 Jayco Eagle 12UDST. 13” wheels. It has an Atwood hydraulic actuator with back up lockout that is totally shot. The fluid reservoir is rusted out and the master cylinder isn’t repairable. I am sure the brake shoes and other parts have rusted out as well since it’s been years that they have seen use. It is towed with a 2016 Ford Flex with factory tow package including the 7 pin connection. What products would are recommend to change over from hydraulic to electric brakes. The campers coupler is the A type if that helps. Thank you, your guidance is much appreciated.

I took a look at the specs of your 1998 Jayco Eagle 12UDST, and it looks like this is a single axle trailer with a 2,000 lb axle. That means you likely have a 7" hub and drum like the Dexter Hub and Drum Assembly # 8-257-5UC3-EZ, though you will want to confirm that by measuring the inside diameter of the hub.
If you do have a 7" hub and drum, as well as a 4-bolt mounting flange like # 4-34, the correct electric brakes are the Electric Trailer Brake Kit - 7" - Left and Right Hand Assemblies # AKEBRK-2.
With these you will also need Mounting Hardware for 7" Brake Assemblies # BRKH7.
For wiring you will need to add a trailer 7-way and junction box with parts # HM20041 and # 3375601100, and for wiring to the electric brakes you'd need 10 Gauge Primary Wire # 10-1-1.
You will also need a breakaway kit, the Bright Way Push-to-Test Trailer Breakaway Kit with 12V, 5-Amp-Hr Battery and 1-Amp Charger - Side Load # 3802346 or Top Load # 3802308.
