Does Longer Weight Distribution Shank Change Ride Quality or Handling Characteristics

Question:

2016 f-150 towing 25foot Airstream. GVWR 7600. Truck is raised and has the tailgate with a step so it is a bit wider at top and therefore inadequate clearance to open when trailer is attached. Equalizer WD hitch currently with 12foot shank. I need somewhere between 3inch and 4inch drop. Considering Equalizer SKU: 90-02-4600 with 18shank. I understand I will need to readjust WD settings on hitch but once set up, will longer shank have any adverse affects on towing handling or safety? thank you

A longer weight distribution shank like part # EQ90-02-4600 does not require you to change your weight distribution spring bar tension at all. As long as you can still tow the trailer level with it no changes would be need. You'd just gain the added clearance you are wanting. The longer shank also does not cause handling or safety issues either.
