4-Pole Trailer Wiring Harness for 2007 Ford Ranger

Question:

will this part work for my 2007 ford ranger? I want to be able to rent a trailer requiring a 4 way flat end for the trailer side. is there a plug in trailer wiring harness that would not require any splicing? any suggestions, details appreciated. thanks

The 4-pole Hardwire Trailer Wiring Harness, part # 18252 is the correct wiring harness for your 2007 Ford Ranger.

Although there is not a plug and play option available, the # 18252 is simple and straightforward to install. Simply locate the wiring harness behind the rear bumper that feeds the taillight assemblies. Have a helper activate the left turn signal, and use the included tester to pierce the insulation of each wire until you locate one that makes the tester blink. Then, tap the yellow wire on the harness into this wire. Do the same for the right turn (green wire) and running light circuit (brown wire). Ground the white wire to the trailer frame.

Rather than using the included quick splice connectors, I recommend using butt connectors like part # 05730-5. Be sure to use electrical tape or heat shrink tubing to protect your splices from the elements.

A bracket like # 18144 can be used to protect the trailer connector from dragging on the ground and being damaged.
