Question:

MaxxTow 30x50 Wheelchair Carrier w/ 48inch Long Ramp - 2inch Hitches - Folding - Steel - 500 lbs Item MT70106 On this mobility scooter set up. Do you know if lights are required for night driving in California? Could you recommend a set up which includes a license plate light for night driving?

I have found a couple California Laws regarding lights on trailers/accessories.

24600:
During darkness, every trailer shall be equipped with taillights, stoplamps (24603) license plate light (24601) and
turn signal lamps (24950).

24604:
Whenever the load or trailer projects more than 4 feet behind the tow vehicle or obstructs the taillights, the projection must be equipped with taillamps. (magnetic lights are OK 24605)

That being said, The MaxxTow Wheelchair Carrier MT70106 sticks out from your hitch about 40 inches. Since the carrier will not be sticking out more than 4 feet past the vehicle, you will be find to haul without any lights.

If you did block your license plate, you can our License Plate Mounting Bracket # e98944 to mount your license plate.

If for some reason you have completely blocked your tail lights, which I doubt you will here are some magnetic tail lights # PE26UR that will connect to your 4-pole connector. Magnetic lights are so much easier to use in my opinion because they aren't permanent and can be used for multiple applications. Also, in California magnetic lights are legal to use.

I've included some videos if you wanted to get a closer look at the products we talked about here.
