Wiring Harness Recommendation for a 2004 Jeep Liberty Without a Tow Package
Question:
Will part #42475 fit on a Jeep Liberty 2004 without a tow package ? I looked and the connection that I believe is shown in the instructions is on the driver side and im hoping that this part works.

I verified with my contact at Hopkins that the Hopkins Plug-in Wiring Harness, # 42475, will work on your 2004 Jeep Liberty if it did not come with a tow package. He also stated that the factory connection is typically on the passenger side, but it may be possible that the manufacturer routed the connection to the driver side.
I would recommend checking the passenger side for a connector before attempting to connect it to the connector on the driver side.
One thing that you will want to keep in mind with the Hopkins wiring harness is that it is only rated for 2 amps for stop and turn signals on a trailer. It is very important that you find or test for the amperage draw of the turn and brake lights on your trailer. Often times standard incandescent bulbs for trailer brake lights and turn signals will draw more than 2 amps and this will short out the converter box on the wiring harness.
If you find that the turn and brake lights on your trailer draw more than 2 amps, then I would recommend installing the Tow Ready T-One Wiring Harness, # 118524. This wiring harness is rated for up to 4.2 amps for the stop and turn signals and uses a powered converter that connects directly to your vehicles battery. This will be the safer option between the two wiring harnesses.
The installation of this wiring harness is different from the Hopkins harness. This wiring harness will tee into the connectors at the back of the tail light assemblies. I have attached the installation instructions and an installation video for you to check out.
