Which Rhino-Rack Pioneer Platform for 2018 Subaru Outback Wagon

For a 2018 Subaru Outback with stowable crossbars non-Touring, I’m considering the 58inch Long x 47inch Wide Pioneer Platform Item # RR42115BF. The crossbars on the Outback are roughly 39” across. Are the mounts for the 47” wide platform less than 39” apart so that it can attach?

The Rhino Rack 58" x 47 " Pioneer Platform # RR42115BF is a confirmed fit per Rhino Rack for your 2018 Subaru Outback Wagon but I think you would have issues mounting this. We have not had the opportunity to test this out ourselves to confirm. With this being wider than the cross bars the outside mounting location is too wide for your crossbars. The center of the outside mounting location is 3-5/8" from the outside of the platform. You would not clear the side rails that your crossbars attach to.

The smaller version of the Pioneer Platform # RR42114BF is 48" long x 38" wide. This does not offer near the same size but the width would allow you to mount this in the proper mounting location to your crossbars.

If you prefer the larger platform, Yakima has a solution to replace your factory crossbars. The Yakima JetStream Crossbars # Y00425, SkyLine Towers # Y53TR and the custom fit Landing Pad 15 for Yakima Control Towers # Y00241 replaces your cross bar system and gives you much wider cross bars. Adding this roof rack would give you the ability to carry the larger platform on your 2018 Subaru Outback. If you add this roof rack I would also add locks to it using Yakima's SKS lock cores # Y07204.
