Parts Needed to Install 7 way and Add Brake Controller for 2014 Toyota Highlander

Question:

Hi there, My vehicle is a 2014 Toyota Highlander XLE w/out tow package. Im looking to get ready to haul an electric break assisted trailer. I believe I will need: Curt #13200 hitch the Curt Echo #51180 and the Tekonsha 7-way Tow Package Wiring Harness #22119. Will that all be compatible? Will the Echo fit into the harness? And then the trailers 7-way into the Echo right? Do I have other options I should be considering? Can you think of accessories that I will need? The Pollak 7-Pole, RV-Style Trailer Connector #PK12711U maybe? Anything else Im missing? Any general advice? Thanks so much!

We do have what you're looking for, but I think that since you're looking to use the Curt Echo # C51180, we can offer you a better solution in terms of ease of installation. For starters, the Curt # C13200 is a good choice for the hitch because Curt's hitches tend to have a more durable powder coating on them. You're also going to need a ball mount and hitch ball, so I recommend using the etrailer ball mount kit # 989900 since it comes with 2 balls, 2 ball mounts that can be used at various rise/drops, hitch pin, clip and carrying bag; so it's got everything you should need in that regard.

For the wiring,I don't recommend using the Tekonsha # 22119. Instead, I recommend starting with the Tekonsha # 118449 to install the 4 way connector you need as the base wiring; Tekonsha wiring is extremely reliable compared to others and this will be a plug and play installation for you. When it comes to adding the 7 way, since you're planning on using the Curt Echo, I recommend using the # ETBC7L kit since it's going to be a little bit easier to install since it doesn't require running a wire for the brake controller into the cabin of the vehicle.

I've linked some review videos on these parts as well as some installation videos that you might also find helpful.
