Parts to Tow a 2015 Smart Car and 2011 Chevy Tahoe Behind a Motorhome

Question:

I want to tow a 2015 Smart car with automatic transmission, not sure what I need to do to tow it. I also want to tow a 2011 Tahoe 4x4 auto with the dolly, same question.

We can help with the parts you need to flat tow your 2015 Smart fourtwo. I'll list the parts I recommend starting with the Demco Commander II tow bar, part # DM9511012-BX. I like Demco's tow bars because of the built in rise or drop and the safety cables. This one in particular includes the adapters to connect to Blue Ox base plates because for your Smart car I recommend part # BX1987.

The other parts I recommend are:

Braking system part # BLU37TR
Wiring kit part # RM-15267

For the braking you also need to supply power by adding a 12-volt connection using part # RM-9332, and you can add a battery disconnect, part # RM-766 to make it easier to disconnect the battery if you like.

I did a little research and from what I found your 2011 Chevy Tahoe can be flat or dolly towed as long as it has a two-speed transfer case. All you need is a dolly but the problem is finding one that can handle that amount of weight. The highest rated tow dollies we carry are the Demcos like part # DM9713045 and they're rated up to 4,800 pounds. Not enough for your Tahoe. You might consider flat towing it as well. If you choose to flat tow the Tahoe the braking system and wiring from the Smart car are still fine but you need different base plates using part # DM9518200. The Commander II works with this kit as well. You don't need the battery disconnect or the 12-volt connector with the Tahoe.

With either vehicle you might need a high-low adapter. I've linked an article on how to determine which one you need as well as our selection of all of them.
