Distance From Front of DM8550034 Demco Hijacker 5th Wheel Hitch to Front of Bed on 2011 Ford F250

Question:

What is the distance between hitch and front of bed, 2011 F-250 Shortbed with rails in bed. I have a auxiliary fuel tank and want to make sure it will clear it.

Let me begin by saying that the fifth wheel install bracket and rail kits from different manufacturers can place the hitch in different places in relation to the truck's rear axle. So the dimension between the front of the hitch and the front wall of the truck bed can vary by a few inches between bracket kits available from Demco, Reese, Curt, Husky, B&W, etc.

If the Demco # DM8552000-71 bracket kit is used, the front of the hitch would be right about even with the front edge of the bed rail closest to the truck cab. The front edge would locate about 58 inches forward of the rear edge of the bed, as shown in the provided diagram.

Since Demco hasn't tested how the hitch would sit with any other manufacturer's rail/bracket kits, they were unwilling to speculate on what the clearance would be with any other bracket/rail kit.

You'll also want to make sure the fuel tank isn't taller than the sides of the bed, or the 5th wheel loft could collide with it during turns.
