Compatibility of Spare Tire Carrier on Rear Hitch Receiver
Question:
Is there a reason why this couldnt be mounted on the rear 2inch receiver of the vehicle? Why is it shown as front mount?inch I have a 99 Land Cruiser with a tail gate and I need the clearance that this carrier provides vs the sharp inward angle of the rear mount.

The Front Mounted Trailer Hitch Universal Spare Tire Carrier # 6715 can absolutely be used on the rear trailer hitch receiver of your vehicle. You can see this on the back of a camper in our customer photos on the product page. The manufacturer named it but it absolutely can be used for a rear hitch receiver. You may in certain states need to relocate your license plate so that is likely why they listed it as a front mount. The other issue is the cargo access, so you may also consider using the Kuat Pivot 2 Swing Away Hitch Extender for Bike Racks - 2" Hitches - Passenger's Side # PVP20B.
If you need to relocate the plate you can use the License Plate Relocation Kit for Westin Ultimate and E-Series Bull Bars # 32-0055 or License Plate Bracket for Aries Modular Jeep Bumper or Jeep Tube Bumper - Black Powder Coated Steel # AA55-0000 and determine a mounting point visible on the back of your vehicle.
