What is a Reason Why Not to Install an Over-Under Conversion Kit for Trailer Towing
Question:
I forgot to mention that I also have the moride system. Can I still use the 3” over/under kit. I’m needing about 3” more in height to level my 2007 Montevideo bay 36 foot fifth wheel.

Basically the only time you can't install the over-under conversion kit, part # K71-384-00 (2-3/8" axle) or # K71-385-00 (for 3" axle), is if you either have torsion axles or your leaf spring stack is already located on top of your axle. It's also worth noting that there isn't a way to directly mount a shock to this so if you have an upgraded suspension with shocks then you might need to sacrifice that for the extra lift, or reach out to that manufacturer to see if they have a solution.
Torsion axles are easy to identify because they have a type of arm that goes from the axle tube to the trailer hub. So instead of a leaf spring stack flexing up and down like a typical suspension system, the torsion arm will flex up and down.
Aside from the exceptions above you can technically install an over-under kit. With that being said, if you've already raised the height of your trailer already by adding taller leaf springs and/or hangers, then adding a conversion kit could potentially raise your trailer too high so that it becomes too top heavy and couple topple over under the right (or wrong) circumstances. There isn't really a guideline on this as each trailer is different so you'll need to use some good judgement and possibly have some professionals take a quick look to see if they think it's safe or not.
If you are just getting into the towing game then I strongly recommend doing a LOT of homework prior to purchasing anything. Make sure you do research on the truck and trailer both together and separately to see what the likes and dislikes are. Every once in awhile we have someone ask a question and they either have too much trailer for their truck, or they have way too much truck (height-wise) for their trailer - then they are stuck trying to figure everything out.
