Will the Curt Trailer Wiring Harness for a 2015 Jeep Compass Kill the Battery With Trailer Unplugged
Question:
By connecting direct to the battery is there a constant draw by the converter box?

Expert Reply:
The Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness part # C56344 which is a confirmed fit for a 2015 Jeep Compass is an excellent option to power a set of trailer lights providing the most basic trailer lighting functions. The converter box will need to be powered via the vehicle's battery to minimize strain on the vehicle's tail light circuits. In regards to amp draw, there will be none without a trailer plugged in so you don't have to worry about draining the battery or unhooking the wiring harness while not towing. There will be power on the wire to the converter box at all times but this doesn't get feed anywhere so no draw on the system without a trailer plugged in.
In order to complete your towing setup you also need a trailer hitch, the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver part # e98836 is what I recommend and a ball mount/hitch ball, the etrailer Ball Mount Kit part # 989900 would have you covered.
