Recommended 5th Wheel Hitch Weight Capacity for 2016 Ram 3500 with Pucks

Question:

I plan on purchasing a Fifth Wheel with a UVW of 10,070 pounds and a Hitch weight of 1800 lbs. I will tow with a 2016 Ram 8ft bed with the puck system installed. What hitchs would you recommend? Is a 16K Hitch sufficient? Thank you!

The fifth wheel trailer hitch I recommend for a 2016 Ram 3500 with factory prep package is the Curt A-Series 5th Wheel Hitch part # C16520-16021 for 16K or part # C16044 for 20K. In order to choose the correct model, you will need to know the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the trailer and then choose the option that exceeds this by a few thousand pounds. The 16K model would most likely work just fine for you but I recommend the 20K since this will give you more of a safety margin and will allow you to upgrade to a heavier trailer down the road if you want without having to replace the hitch.

The A-Series is actually one of my favorite options because it has a great price and provides really great features. These features include dual interlocking jaws which have a tight grip on the kingpin therefore minimal chucking and jarring is felt and it has an easy to remove head so you can get the hitch in and out of the truck bed by yourself.
