Is Curt Wedge For A-Series 5th Wheel Hitches Supposed To Touch Pin Box King Pin?
Question:
Hi I bought the custom wedge for my a20 curt 5th wheel hitch. C16992 was the one recommended in one of the q and a that I saw. I installed it but it is over a 1/4 inch away from the actual kingpin. It fits the hitch opening perfect but is just not making contact with the kingpin. I hooked the trailer up and it works but I thought the point was to wedge the kingpin also? Do I need a different wedge?I have a lippert turning point 5th wheel pin box.

I would be happy to help!
Based on your description of the Custom Wedge # C16992 being 1/4" from the king pin and fitting your Curt A-20 5th wheel hitch perfectly it sounds like everything is fitting as designed.
The wedge is bolted to the pin box and it being installed into the 5th wheel hitch head is what is keeping the king pin from being able to rotate. Due to how the king pin sits in the hitch the wedge can't touch the king pin or it would not fit the hitch tightly.
I included a picture showing this wedge installed, and a video review of the # C16992 for you to take a look at.
