Can Oil Seal be Used in Place of Grease Seal

Question:

Yesterday I went to my local NAPA dealer for replacement grease seals for my trailer hubs. I brought in the old grease seal so that he could find a match. It wasnt until after I got home that I realized that he had sold me a pair of OIL SEALS. Do I need to take them back, or will they work just fine with my greased bearings?

So long as the dimensions are what you need, you can use an oil seal as opposed to a grease seal on your trailer hub.

For example, the Oil Seal # 10-63 and Grease Seal # GS-2250DL both have 2.250" inner diameters and 3.376" outer diameters so they are compatible.

If you are in the process of changing out your bearings and seals, I have added links to help articles on how to replace them as well as a link to our entire selection of bearings, races and seals for you to check out.
