How to Determine What Hub and Drums Will Fit Vintage Military Trailer
Question:
I want to convert hubs and drums on a vintage m101a military trailer. It currently has 5 on 6-7/8 bolt pattern with 4+7/8” center hub opening. I want to convert to an 8 lug with park brake. It currently has park brake setup. I want to change to standard steel wheels and tires. It currently has safety rims with 9.00/16 tires. What info do you need to change these hubs out to your 8 lug hubs.

Since 5 on 6-7/8" is not a standard bolt pattern for a trailer nowadays, you'll need to start by first replacing your hubs and drums, which will allow you to fit a wheel with a more standard bolt pattern. There are a couple of different ways to determine the hubs and drums you need for your vintage military trailer.
The easiest is to take apart your current hub assembly and look at the bearings themselves; wipe away the grease and you should be able to see the part number stamped directly on them. If you are unable to find them, you need to use digital caliper and measure your spindle to the thousandths of an inch where the bearings and grease seal ride.
For example, if your inner bearing was # 25580 or you measured 1.75" where the inner bearing rode, and your outer bearing was # 15123 or you measured 1.25" where the outer bearing rode, and you measured 2.25" where the grease seal rode you would be able to use Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # AKHD-655-6-K which has a 6 on 5-1/2" bolt pattern - an 8-lug may not be available depending on your spindle.
I have added a link to our entire selection of hubs as well as a link to our selection of wheels and tires, and a help article on wheel bearings. Or, if you let me know what bearings or measurements you have I can try and point you in the right direction.
