Will UWS Crossover Type Toolbox UWS00373 Leave Room in Truck Bed for Towing 5th Wheel

Question:

Will this work on a Ram 3500 with 8ft bed pulling a fifth wheel. I am worried about the trailer hitting the tool box

It's not possible to say for sure, but I can give you a good idea of where the bed will sit in the box. The top of the lid of the UWS # UWS00373 toolbox will sit about 2 inches above the top of the bed side so it's possible that if you are making a turn at the bottom of a slope that the front underside of the trailer loft could hit the top of the toolbox. Generally speaking, we like to see at least 4 inches of height clearance between the top of the bed side (or the closest object) and the underside of the trailer loft. The tool box will extend about 18-1/8 into the bed aft of the front bulkhead of the bed.

You could use some scrap cardboard to mock up a toolbox, and arrange it in the bed so its height sits 2 inches above the bed rail and 1/-1/8 inches rearward of the front of the bed, then try several different low speed maneuvers to see how close the trailer loft gets.

If you find that the trailer comes too close for comfort, a chest style toolbox would be a better choice (see link)
