Note: Always replace your struts in pairs, where applicable. Most lids, covers, or hatches have a strut on each side. Failure to replace both struts can result in a warped or damaged hinge.
Gas Strut with Exceptional Stability
Most gas struts consist of a tube filled with pressurized nitrogen gas, a piston, and rod. The Atlas Lift strut, however, has a dynamic damping groove inside the tube that regulates gas movement across the piston. This ensures your tool box lid, bed cover, or boat hatch stays open when you want it open and shuts slowly without bouncing or slamming. Lastly, in contrast to struts that only have gas in the chamber, a few drops of oil have been mixed in to help seal the piston and lubricate the rod. This allows your lid to move more smoothly as the rod travels in and out of the tube.
How to Find the Right Gas Strut for Your Application
Determining which gas strut is right for your application is easy. All you need to do is remove your worn-out strut and locate the force printed on the side of the tube:
Then, pull the rod out so it's fully extended and take the following measurements:

Hi there, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a quick look at this Universal Gas Strut Lift Support Arm. This is going to replace one lift support arm on your truck cover, boat hatch, toolbox, or other application. This does extend to help hold your lift or hatch open, it's also gonna give you a little bit of assistance as you're opening it up, and then it's going to gently compress while you're closing, so you don't have to worry about getting your fingers smashed or any of your equipment getting caught in a quickly closing lid or hatch. This does have these 10 millimeter nylon ball sockets here that are going to allow you to very easily install directly onto your 10 millimeter ball studs and just snap right in place, give you that nice firm connection there. Our overall length from the center of one ball socket to the center of the other, we're gonna be just over 12 inches, we'll call it 12 1/16 of an inch, our compressed length is going to be 7 1/2 inches, so our stroke here is gonna be 4 9/16 of an inch.
This does have a compression force of 45 to 55 pounds, which is equivalent to about 200 to 245 Newtons, and it does feature a dampening technology that's gonna help make for a nice smooth operation to help eliminate your bouncing and jumping that you sometimes experience with other similar items, so this is going to have a nice frictionless movement in all weather conditions, whether you're in the snow or the rain, it's still gonna operate nice and smooth for you. This does have a nitride-coated steel shaft that is gonna be corrosion resistant, so it'll last for long time to come and give you a nice long lasting performance. It does come with a limited lifetime warranty, so if you we're to have any problems with it, you're more than welcome to reach out to us here at etrailer.com. But as long as you are looking for that approximately 12 inch length and that 45 to 55 pounds of compression, this is gonna do a great job for you. That completes our look for today.
Again, I'm Michael with etrailer.com, thanks for watching..

These worked fine during warm weather, however, when it got cold they quit working and would not hold nor lift the glass lid. These have been replaced with factory units.
just took longer then expected .
So far so good. We will see if they last another winter here in Colorado. The struts we have had in the past seem to fail in the winter time.
They worked perfect. Glad I made the purchase at etrailer
