Recommended Hitch Extender for Towing with a 2008 Range Rover

Question:

Jon, Thank you for your response. I am sorry I did not mention to you that according to the Range Rover 2008 owner's manual, the hitch length must not exceed 11 inches. Do you know why that is? Can I still use the Hidden Hitch ball mount at 15 3/4 " or is there another ball mount at 11 inches that you recommend? Also, what do you think of the ball mount with polyurethane as a shock absorber (e.g. "convert a ball" (#AMSC2). Again, thank you so much. I appreciate your expertise.

Since hitch extenders like the 11" Roadmaster # RM-071 you show in your pictures reduces the weight rating of the hitch by 50% we typically recommend avoiding them as a solution. For your application we have ball mounts with extended shanks that don't reduce the weight capacity of your hitch and that's what I recommend going with.

For a long ball mount we have the Brophy Ball Mount # BM20 which has a 3/4" rise/2" drop and measures 13-1/4" from the center of the hitch pin hole to center of the 1" diameter hole for the shank of the hitch ball (see attached). I'd imagine you need a 2" hitch ball since that's popular for the size of your 2020 Airstream Caravel travel trailer so if you don't already have one with a 1" shank I recommend the part # 63845 which has a chrome finish.

Thank you for the additional information! I don't know exactly why they would say not to exceed a ball mount length of 11" but I imagine it has to do with putting too much pressure on the trailer hitch/vehicle frame. The Convert-A-Ball Ball Mount # AMSC2 that you referenced is another excellent option and it only measures 9-1/2" from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of where the ball mounts so it doesn't exceed the length that Range Rover calls out in the owner's manual. The hitch ball # 63845 can be used with this ball mount as well since it is compatible with a 1" diameter shank. Attached is a review video of this ball mount for you to check out.
