How to Tell If Spare Tire Carrier Will Work with Yakima BackRoad Bike Rack on a 2019 Lexus NX 300h
Question:
Hi there, I have a 2019 Lexus NX300h with an aftermarket CURT hitch assembly, which is rated for 525 lbs Tongue weight. I want to purchase the RM-195125 spare tire carrier with receiver. I will be putting a Yakima Backroad4 Model 8002702 bike rack into the receiver. The spare tire is a 225/60R18H, which is about 9 inch wide. Will I need a hitch extender assuming that the rim is mounted from the outside, and if so, what size REM-071? Curious if there are stand-offs spacers such that I could mount the tire rim-out? Also I am wondering if the tire mount-point is universal. I sent a pic of the rim. Thanks!

In order to fit your Yakima BackRoad (8002702) with your spare tire on the Roadmaster Spare Tire Carrier # RM-195125, you'll need to use the Yakima StraightShot Hitch Extension # Y69VR.
The StraightShot moves the center of the hitch pin hole out 7-1/4" and then your BackRoad is 9" from the hitch pin hole to the upright on the bike rack so this gives you enough clearance. Please note that you'll be using an adapter with an adapter for this setup which is something we don't normally recommend doing because it adds more connections and potentially movement.
You might be able to get by without using the extender but I'll need to know the distance from the point that mounts to this spare tire carrier to the outermost place on your tire. I'm attaching a dimensional photo you can reference to see the clearance I'm talking about.
The bolt pattern on this carrier is fairly universal and I'm adding a table that shows how to make sure your bolt pattern will work with this carrier. Unfortuantely there aren't any spacers designed for this system.
