Which Leaf Spring Do I Need For A Lippert 5200 Lb Axle
Question:
I am looking for a spare spring for a Lippert 5200# axle. This has Lippert 2600# springs on it now. I am looking for something with a little more capacity like 3000# or 3200# spring. Your chat person gave me part #SP-053275 and on your website Kyle S says to use SP-051275. The first on is listed as a 6000# spring for a 6000# axle and is a six leaf spring, mine is four leaf. The second # is listed for a 4000# axle and is a 4000# spring. Why would you put a spring that is rated for the FULL weight of the axle on? Lippert axles use springs that are half or just over half of the rated weight of the axle, ie, 2600# springs for a 5200# axle. This is confusing as the 6000# spring looks like it could be used on a 12000# axle with six leafs.

The 6-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 6,000-lb Trailer Axles part # e94SR is rated for 3,000 lbs which would be what you need for a little more capacity when replacing a 2,600 lb spring that is 26" long. I was able to find the answer from Kyle and he also recommends the e94SR as well in his answer, the 4-leaf spring part # e27SR is not enough capacity because although it's for a 4,500 lb axle it's only rated for 2,000 lbs. The e94SR is a 6 leaf spring which does not matter when it comes to replacing the spring you wan't to go by the capacity of the spring and the measurement from center of spring eye to center of spring eye.
You also want to keep in mind that springs sag overtime. When replacing springs the best practice is to measure when the spring is not engaged if you measure center of spring eye to the center of the other spring eye and the spring is actually 25-1/4" Long you will need part # e78SR which is a 5-leaf spring with a 3,000 lb capacity. We also highly recommend to replace all of the springs at the same time because they will work against each other which causes uneven tire wear and other issues.
